Do YOU have the Blues?

Updated: Dec 26, 2023

*FULL disclosure: I am NOT a mental health professional. Everything in this post is my opinion. Please contact a mental health professional for advice.

Depending on where you live in the world, Fall is in full swing! Temperatures have dropped significantly, and the days have gotten shorter. This means it's often dark by 5:00, which can lead to those blues!

Listed below are some things that I find helpful. I hope it sheds a bit of light on your day. :) Be sure to share what has helped you!

  • Nature

Breathing in fresh air is so helpful for clearing the mind. The tranquil views cause a racing mind to slow down. The mind begins to focus on the rustle of the leaves as the wind glides through the trees. The murmur of the rippling waves of water is a subtle reminder of the beauty life holds.

  • Journaling

I believe there is power when we put our words to paper. Grab your favorite warm beverage and start writing.

  • Baking

I don't know about you, but there is nothing quite like the smell of warm pastries baking in the oven. Saturday mornings are perfect to spend in the kitchen. It doesn't have to be complicated. Find a simple sugar cookie recipe or any other cookie that you enjoy.

  • Exercising

Exercising is a great mood elevator! Hit up your favorite gym or go out on a hike. If there is snow near you, invest in some snowshoes and try a new hobby! Don't forget to bundle up!

There's nothing like some vitamin D!

  • Talk to someone

Have you heard of Kevin Hines? He shares his powerful story of trying to take his own life but thankfully survived! His story is powerful! Look him up if you have never heard of his story. You will need some tissues. (Heads up). He and his wife manage a 24-hour crisis hotline. If you are in need, text CNQR to 741-741 to get connected to someone. Kevin always reminds people that,"A pain shared is a pain halved."
